A total of $52,930 in operational funding has been provided to Them
Days Incorporated and the Labrador Heritage Society, through the
province's Cultural Economic Development Program.
"The Provincial Government is pleased to provide $50,000 to continue its
support for Them Days Incorporated, which is dedicated to researching
and recording the oral, visual and written history of Labrador, and
$2,930 to support the day-to-day operations of the Labrador Heritage
Society," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture
and Recreation. "Both these groups are doing important work to safeguard
the distinct cultural heritage of the region for present and future
generations."
The 2010 Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) is providing $1.27
million for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and
about $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total of
almost $2.5 million.
"Them Days Incorporated and the Labrador Heritage Society have both been
instrumental in preserving archival information and cultural heritage in
the Lake Melville area and for residents and families in all of
Labrador," said the Honourable John Hickey, MHA for Lake Melville. "I am
pleased that our government recognizes the importance of organizations
such as these, and provides funding to assist in their success and
longevity."
CEDP applications are considered based on the strength of the business
plans, vision and potential for development within the sector. For more
