Communities Benefit from Heritage Investments
Heritage organizations in the Baie Verte-Springdale
region have received $13,850 in operational support funding through the
province's Cultural Economic Development Program.
"The Provincial Government recognizes the tremendous contributions of
community-based heritage organizations throughout Newfoundland and
Labrador, and is proud to assist them in their day-to-day efforts to
promote and present our heritage to residents and visitors alike," said
the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation. "We thank and applaud both staff and volunteers for being
such important stewards of our cultural heritage."
Budget 2010 investments in the Baie Verte-Springdale region are as
follows:
- Dorset Eskimo Carving Committee — $5, 890;
- King's Point Heritage Society — $4,050;

Baie Verte Peninsula Economic Development
Association — $2,490;
-
La Scie French Shore Connection Society — $1,000;
and,
-
Springdale Heritage Society — $420 in operational
support.
"These organizations play a vital role in the
preservation and promotion of our rich heritage," said Baie Verte-Springdale
MHA Kevin Pollard. "This program provides valuable support for these
groups, while contributing to the communities' cultural and economic
development."
The 2010 Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) is providing $1.27
million for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and
about $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total of
almost $2.5 million.
CEDP applications are considered based on the strength of the business
plans, vision and potential for development within the sector. For more
