Baie Verte-Springdale Communities Benefit from Heritage Investments

Heritage organizations in the Baie Verte-Springdale region have received $13,850 in operational support funding through the province's Cultural Economic Development Program.

"The Provincial Government recognizes the tremendous contributions of community-based heritage organizations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, and is proud to assist them in their day-to-day efforts to promote and present our heritage to residents and visitors alike," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "We thank and applaud both staff and volunteers for being such important stewards of our cultural heritage."

Budget 2010 investments in the Baie Verte-Springdale region are as follows:

  • Dorset Eskimo Carving Committee — $5, 890;
  • King's Point Heritage Society — $4,050;
  • Baie Verte Peninsula Economic Development Association — $2,490;
  • La Scie French Shore Connection Society — $1,000; and,
  • Springdale Heritage Society — $420 in operational support.

"These organizations play a vital role in the preservation and promotion of our rich heritage," said Baie Verte-Springdale MHA Kevin Pollard. "This program provides valuable support for these groups, while contributing to the communities' cultural and economic development."

The 2010 Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) is providing $1.27 million for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and about $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total of almost $2.5 million.

CEDP applications are considered based on the strength of the business plans, vision and potential for development within the sector. For more information on the CEDP program for heritage organizations, and application guidelines, visit:
