Communities Benefit from Heritage Investments
A total of $17,800 in operational support has been
provided to heritage organizations in the Terra Nova region through the
Cultural Economic Development Program.
"The Provincial Government recognizes the importance
of preserving and presenting our heritage for residents and visitors
alike," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture
and Recreation. "These organizations are vital partners in our
collective efforts to maintain our cultural identity, and I commend them
for their dedication and hard work."
Budget 2010 investments in the Terra Nova region are
as follows:
- Smallwood Era Development Corporation — $7,260;
- Burnside Heritage Foundation Inc. — $7,210;
- Glovertown Museum Association — $2,330; and,
- Salvage Fishermen's Museum — $1,000.
"I am pleased that our government continues to invest
in the cultural assets of our province," said Terra Nova MHA Sandy
Collins. "These organizations are tremendously important to the
economies and character of the communities in the area and, indeed in
Newfoundland and Labrador."
The 2010 Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP)
is providing $1.27 million for operational and project support to the
heritage sector, and about $1.2 million to the professional arts sector,
for a total of almost $2.5 million.
CEDP applications are considered based on the strength
of the business plans, vision and potential for development within the
sector. For more information on the CEDP program for heritage
