Kavanagh Returns as President of NLBA
The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association held their
Annual General Meeting this past weekend in St. John's. One of the major
changes for the association will be a one year pilot switching school
championships from age group to grade levels. The change will be
re-evaluated at next year's AGM. Other issues discussed included the
development of a new program to increase females in coaching, the
challenges facing the sport in Labrador and the hosting of the Eastern
Canadian Club Championships in 2011.
The election of officers also took place which saw Dr. Basil Kavanagh
of St. John's return as president for the 6th consecutive
year. Dave Constantine of Dunville returned as vice president along with
Roger Head of St. John's as secretary/treasurer and Tom Earles as youth
development director. Kevin Fitzpatrick was elected as the policy
director and Ig Parsons of St. John's as senior tournament director.
Regional directors include; Ed Turpin of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Tom
Stewart of Corner Brook, Jamie Holmes of Gander, Jim Loder of St.
Lawrence, Mark Nash of Dunville Randy Ash of Mount Pearl and Brent
Sellars of St. John's.
