June 24, 2010More Than $115,000 Provided for Bonavista South
Heritage
A total of $115,180 in operational support has been provided to
several heritage organizations in the Bonavista South region through the
province's Cultural Economic Development Program.
"Community-based heritage organizations play an integral role in
preserving and interpreting our history and culture," said the
Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation.
"The Provincial Government is proud to support local groups in the
Bonavista South region which are dedicated to providing opportunities
for people to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage of
Newfoundland and Labrador."
Budget 2010 investments in the Bonavista South region are as follows:
Bonavista Historic Townscape Foundation — $43,420;
Sir William Ford Coaker Heritage Foundation — $34,170;
Tourism Elliston Inc. — $19,660;
Matthew Legacy Inc. — $16,930; and,
King's Cove Historical Society Inc. — $1,000
"These investments will benefit the entire Bonavista Peninsula," said
the Honourable Roger Fitzgerald, MHA for Bonavista South. "The Bonavista
Peninsula attracts tourists from all over the world and visitors marvel
at the many tourist attractions which exist within a few minutes drive
from each location. The individual historic associations are to be
commended for working together to provide this cultural and heritage
experience."
The 2010 Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) is providing
$1.27 million for operational and project support to the heritage
sector, and about $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a
total of almost $2.5 million.
CEDP applications are considered based on the strength of the
business plans, vision and potential for development within the sector.
