$15,000 Provided for Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove
Community Centre
The Town of Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove has received $15,000 from the
Community Capital Grant Program to support roof repairs to the town's
multi-purpose community centre, which houses the town council offices,
recreation centre, and heritage museum.
"This facility serves as a venue for the town's indoor recreation
programs, and also houses its heritage museum," said the Honourable
Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "The
Provincial Government is committed to ensuring our citizens have a safe
and comfortable environment in which to engage in regular physical
activity, and to providing residents and visitors alike with the
opportunity to learn more about our unique culture and heritage."
The Town of Petty Harbour-Maddox Cove is among more than 30
communities throughout the province which will receive funding to
purchase equipment and upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure
through the most recent allocation of $450,900 through the Community
Capital Grant Program.
"The Community Center is a hub for the many groups and organizations
in the Town of Petty Harbor-Maddox Cove and is a place which
demonstrates the strong sense of community felt by area residents," said
Ferryland MHA Keith Hutchings. "This funding plays an important role in
the recreational activities in our communities. It will allow for
much-needed repairs to the building, and I would like to acknowledge the
cooperation of the town's Recreation Committee in working with me to
access these funds."
The Community Capital Grant Program is an application-based program
that provides funding of up to $15,000 to assist municipalities and
recreation commissions to improve their recreation and sports
infrastructure.
Budget 2010: The Right Investments — For Our Children and Our
Future provides an additional $300,000 to the Community Capital
Grant Program, bringing the total annual investment in this program to
$1.3 million. Since the introduction of the Provincial Government's
recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and
Labrador (2007), more than $62.4 million in new funding has been
committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and equipment
throughout the province.
