Infrastructure
The Town of Mount Moriah has been provided with $15,000 from the
Community Capital Grant Program to assist with repairs to its town
hall/recreation centre, a multi-purpose facility which serves as a venue
for numerous community-based recreation programs.
"This investment is provided to facilitate repairs to the wheelchair
access to the building, as well as to help with upgrades to insulation
and exterior siding," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of
Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "It is important that such a facility
is well-maintained and that the programming offered there is available
to the entire community."
Mount Moriah is among more than 30 communities throughout the
province which will receive funding to purchase equipment and upgrade
their recreation and sport infrastructure through the most recent
allocation of $450,900 through the Community Capital Grant Program.
"It is important that we maintain our recreational facilities
throughout the province, as this helps to promote and increase the level
of physical activity in our communities," said Bay of Islands MHA Terry
Loder. "This facility is very important to residents as it serves a
multitude of purposes, and these upgrades will ensure continued service
for the people of the Town of Mount Moriah well into the future."
The Community Capital Recreation Grant Program is an
application-based program that provides funding of up to $15,000 to
assist municipalities and recreation commissions to improve their
recreation and sports infrastructure.
Budget 2010: The Right Investments — For Our Children and Our
Future provides an additional $300,000 to the Community Capital
Grant Program, bringing the total annual investment in this program to
$1.3 million. Since the introduction of the Provincial Government's
recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and
Labrador (2007), more than $62.4 million in new funding has been
committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and equipment
throughout the province.
