Applications for Capital Grants Available Online

Applications for the 2010-11 Minor Project Capital Grant Program, which assists eligible organizations with minor costs associated with upgrades to recreation facilities and equipment, are now available online.

"Sometimes a relatively small amount of money can make a big difference to a community's ability to provide a safer, more inviting environment in which to take part in physical activity," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "This program will help organizations and communities throughout the province provide venues and equipment which encourage more active, healthy lifestyles."

Applications and details about the Minor Project Capital Grant Program can be viewed at: www.tcr.gov.nl.ca/tcr/sports/minor_project_capital_grants.html

The deadline for receipt of applications is June 25, 2010.

Under the Minor Project Capital Grant Program, successful applicants can receive grants from $1,000 to $3,000 for projects that support physical activity and recreational opportunities for residents within a community and surrounding region.

Budget 2010: The Right Investments - For Our Children and Our Future provides over $1.2 million in new funding to improve existing programming, and introduce initiatives which support the goals of the provincial recreation and sport strategy, Active Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007). Since the launch of the strategy, more than $62.4 million in new funding has been committed to support recreational and sport infrastructure and equipment throughout the province.
