Conne River Receives $15,000 for Softball Facility Upgrades

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced that Conne River will upgrade its softball facilities with the help of $15,000 from the Community Capital Grant Program.

"The Provincial Government is pleased to support the expansion of the existing softball field, including the addition of a scoreboard and washroom facilities," said Minister French. "This investment will offer long-term benefits for recreation and sport programming for all ages throughout the community."

Conne River is among more than 30 communities throughout the province which will receive funding to purchase equipment and upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through the most recent allocation of $450,900 through the Community Capital Grant Program.

"I am extremely pleased that we can provide this support to the community of Conne River, which has been very active in recreation and community development," said Tracey Perry, MHA for Fortune Bay — Cape La Hune. "Our government is very committed to encouraging active, healthy living among residents all across this province, and we are delighted to partner with the community of Conne River as it continues to build and enhance its recreation infrastructure."

The Community Capital Recreation Grant Program is an application-based program that provides funding of up to $15,000 to assist municipalities and recreation commissions to improve their recreation and sports infrastructure.

Budget 2010: The Right Investments — For Our Children and Our Future provides an additional $300,000 to the Community Capital Grant Program, bringing the total annual investment in this program to $1.3 million. Since the introduction of the Provincial Government's recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $62.4 million in new funding has been committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and equipment throughout the province.
