Conne River Receives
$15,000 for Softball Facility Upgrades
The Honourable Terry French, Minister of
Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced that Conne River will
upgrade its softball facilities with the help of $15,000 from the
Community Capital Grant Program.
"The Provincial Government is pleased to
support the expansion of the existing softball field, including the
addition of a scoreboard and washroom facilities," said Minister French.
"This investment will offer long-term benefits for recreation and sport
programming for all ages throughout the community."
Conne River is among more than 30
communities throughout the province which will receive funding to
purchase equipment and upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure
through the most recent allocation of $450,900 through the Community
Capital Grant Program.
"I am extremely pleased that we can
provide this support to the community of Conne River, which has been
very active in recreation and community development," said Tracey Perry,
MHA for Fortune Bay — Cape La Hune. "Our government is very committed to
encouraging active, healthy living among residents all across this
province, and we are delighted to partner with the community of Conne
River as it continues to build and enhance its recreation
infrastructure."
The Community Capital Recreation Grant
Program is an application-based program that provides funding of up to
$15,000 to assist municipalities and recreation commissions to improve
their recreation and sports infrastructure.
Budget 2010: The Right Investments —
For Our Children and Our Future provides an additional $300,000 to
the Community Capital Grant Program, bringing the total annual
investment in this program to $1.3 million. Since the introduction of
the Provincial Government's recreation and sport strategy, Active,
Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $62.4 million in new
funding has been committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and
equipment throughout the province.
