Public Advisory: Prescribed Burns to be Conducted

The Department of Natural Resources will conduct three prescribed burns at the following locations and on the following dates:

  • A 120-hectare prescribed burn will start Tuesday, September 14, at Lynx Pond. The site is located north of Sandy Lake on a forest access road approximately three kilometres west of Birchy Narrows in Forest Management District 9.
  • A 300-hectare prescribed burn will start Tuesday, September 14, at Denny's Pond. The site is located approximately 20 kilometres southwest of the community of Millertown in Forest Management District 12.
  • A 95-hectare prescribed burn will start Wednesday, September 15, at an area referred to as Faulkner's Flats. The site is located approximately five kilometres southwest of the community of Hampden and six kilometres east off Route 420 on the Clam Pond resource road in Forest Management District 16.

The prescribed burns are being conducted as part of a silviculture management activity to prepare the site for planting and to eliminate the threat of adelgid, a naturally-occurring forest pest which limits tree growth. If weather and wind conditions are not favourable, the burn will proceed as soon as conditions permit.
