Provincial Government Provides Funding for
Fire Protection Equipment in Bonavista North
A Provincial Government investment of $5,774
will provide enhanced fire fighter protection for Bonavista North. The
Honourable Kevin O'Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister
Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services, today announced funding for
the Musgrave Harbour Fire Department.
"The safety of our communities and our
volunteers is a top priority," noted Minister O'Brien. "We are humbled
by the commitment of the women and men of our province's fire service
and are pleased to be able to provide such valuable support."
The funding, which will help the department
acquire new bunker suits, is administered by Fire and Emergency Services
— Newfoundland and Labrador.
"It is critically important that our volunteer
firefighters be provided with the best equipment available in carrying
out their duties and responsibilities," said the Honourable Harry
Harding, Minister of Government Services and MHA for Bonavista North.
"This is another example of our Provincial Government's support for
municipal services in rural Newfoundland and Labrador."
Budget 2010:
The Right Investments — For
Our Children and Our Future
doubled the investment in fire fighting
equipment from $500,000 to $1 million, while also increasing
expenditures on fire fighting vehicles to a total of $2.5 million.
Funding for Bonavista North will be shared between the Provincial
Government and Musgrave Harbour under the 90/10 cost shared ratio
established through the Municipal Capital Works Program, for a total
project cost of over $6,700.
