WHSCC CEO Recognized as One of Canada's Most Powerful Women

The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and Minister Responsible for the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC), congratulates Leslie Galway today for being announced as a recipient of the prestigious 2010 Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards, in the Professionals category.

"I congratulate Leslie Galway, Chief Executive Officer of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission on this outstanding achievement and recognition among her peers across the country," said Minister Sullivan. "Leslie's accomplishments serve as a prime example of women successfully taking on leadership roles and challenges in Newfoundland and Labrador and is an inspiration to all women in the province."

The Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards is Canada's most recognizable award for the country's highest achieving female leaders in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Leslie joins a community of 522 women across Canada who have received this recognition. The complete list of 2010 winners can be found at www.top100women.ca 

"Newfoundland and Labrador is blessed with so many women who have excelled in leadership roles both at home and across the globe," said the Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women. "Leslie Galway is a true example of this leadership and I offer her my sincerest congratulations for this recognition and thank her for being a role model for all women in our province."

Leslie Galway has served as CEO of the WHSCC since January 2008. She is a trusted leader who has fostered excellent working relationships between the commission and key stakeholders in labour and employment. She has helped enhance key programs and services provided by the commission in the areas of accident prevention, early and safe return to work and fiscal responsibility.

The Top 100 Awards Gala Dinner will take place at the Allstream Centre in Toronto today (Monday, November 29).
