Executive Council
April 22, 2010
The following is being distributed at
the request of His Honour, the Honourable John Crosbie, Lieutenant
Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador:
Public Invited to Her
Royal Highness Tree Planting at Government House
His Honour, The Honourable John Crosbie,
Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Her Honour Jane
Furneaux Crosbie, are pleased to invite the public to Government House
grounds to greet and witness Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal,
Princess Anne, plant a tree . The tree planting will take place at 1:45
p.m. this Saturday, April 24. The public is requested to be in place by
1:30 p.m.
His Honour noted that there is a
longstanding tradition of members of the Royal Family planting trees at
Government House. The North Paddock has a substantial grouping of trees
which were planted by members of the Royal Family. The most recent trees
were planted by Queen Elizabeth in 1997 and by the Prince of Wales and
the Duchess of Cornwall in November of last year. Each tree has a small
plaque indicating the date and member of the Royal Family who planted
it.
"We are honoured that The Princess Royal
will continue this tradition," His Honour stated. "Jane and I encourage
the public, including children and youth organizations, to welcome Her
Royal Highness to Government House grounds."
The Princess Royal will plant a Crimson
King Maple tree and inspect the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary's
Mounted Unit.
"The participation of the Royal
Newfoundland Constabulary's Mounted Unit is very much appreciated,"
noted Mr. Crosbie. "Given the Princess's equestrian background, I'm sure
she will be impressed by the magnificent horses in this unit."
