Media Advisory: Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
Commemorates The End of an Era

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is joining with the Government of Canada and other provincial/territorial governments tomorrow in commemorating The End of an Era, which reflects on the recent passing of the last known First World War Veteran, John Babcock.

The National Commemorative Ceremony will coincide with ceremonies across the country honouring Vimy Ridge Day. Each province hosts a Book of Reflection that will be available for signing by those who would like to pay their respects and pay tribute to those who were a part of the First World War. Books of Reflection will also be located overseas at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France; Canada House in London, England; Canadian Forces Base in Kandahar; and the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial National Historic Site in France, which honours all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians that fought in the Great War.

The Book of Reflection will be available for signing tomorrow (Friday, April 9) in the main lobby, East Block, Confederation Building. The Honourable Dave Denine, Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs, and the Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs, start the signing at 10:00 a.m. The book will then be available to the public until 5:00 p.m.
