The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier
of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced today that as a
result of the upcoming expiration of Dr. John
FitzGerald's contract, Dr. FitzGerald has concluded his
work as the province's representative in the
Newfoundland and Labrador Office of Federal-Provincial
Relations in Ottawa.
In his new capacity, Dr. FitzGerald
will undertake a new assignment as a Special Advisor
within the Executive Council of the Provincial
Government, with responsibilities including research and
protocol.
"I want to personally thank Dr.
FitzGerald for his outstanding work during the past four
years as Newfoundland and Labrador's representative in
Ottawa and I look forward to his continued contribution
in his new role," said Premier Williams. "Dr. FitzGerald
did an outstanding job serving as our province's
ambassador and was a strong voice during his tenure in
our nation's capital. He is an exceptional advocate for
our province and a passionate Newfoundlander and
Labradorian, and has played a pivotal role in important
federal-provincial matters during his time in Ottawa."
Until the position in the Ottawa
Office is filled, the provincial Intergovernmental
Affairs Secretariat will assume responsibility for the
office.
