November 20, 2009Public Advisory:
Old Bridges Removed on Northern Peninsula
The Department of Transportation and Works advises
that it has removed three old bridge structures from an
old section of road between the former community of Big
Brook and Eddies Cove on the Northern Peninsula. This
section of road was by-passed more than 25 years ago and
is no longer maintained by the department.
The department's engineers had determined the bridges
were unsafe and had to be removed in the interest of
public safety. In an advisory issued December 3, 2008,
the department announced it was closing the Big Brook
Bridge for safety reasons and that it would be removing
the bridge in the future. Big Brook Bridge is one of the
bridges that have been removed.
