Bridge
Work Highlights Continued Investment in Infrastructure
This years Provincial
Roads Improvement Program continues, with the Department
of Transportation of Works issuing a tender to replace
the existing bridge on Marine Drive at Outer Cove Beach.
This governments
commitment to providing a reliable transportation
network is clearly demonstrated with the $70.7 million
we have invested in this years roads program, said the
Honourable Tom Marshall, acting Minister of
Transportation and Works. Since the program began back
in April, we have called 85 tenders for road and bridge
improvements throughout the province.
This tender will see the
construction of two reinforced concrete rigid frame
bridges, as well as the design, supply and installation
of a mechanically stabilized earth approach embankment.
The two new bridges, one dedicated to the Outer Cove
Brook, the other dedicated to the Outer Cove Beach
access road, will replace the one bridge currently in
the area.
I am very pleased that
this government continues to make significant
infrastructure investments in our province and has
called the tender to replace the Outer Cove Bridge on
Marine Drive, said Cape St. Francis MHA Kevin Parsons.
This bridge is nearing the end of its life expectancy;
and people in the area will be delighted that they once
again will be able to access the Outer Cove Beach, which
has been popular among residents and tourists alike.
The Provincial Roads
Improvement Program will create an estimated 1,400
person years of employment and is part of the Provincial
Government's infrastructure strategy, valued at more
than $4 billion over the next several years.
