Bridge Upgrades Span the Province Bridge work highlights the latest round of tenders issued under the $70.7 million Provincial Roads Improvement Program. Upgrades have been announced in the areas of Terra Nova, Humber Valley and St. Barbe. "Bridges play an integral role in the province�s transportation network and keeping them maintained is a priority for our government," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works. "In fact, this government is investing heavily in our entire transportation network. Including cost-shared projects with the Federal Government, we are investing over $250 million this year alone." Tenders have been issued for the following: "Upkeep of bridges is so vitally important to ensure the safety of the motoring public," said the Honourable Paul Oram, Terra Nova MHA. "Much of our province's bridge infrastructure is reaching its intended lifespan. With such a proactive response, government plans to deal with these bridges before they become safety issues "I am very pleased to see this important work being done in my district," said Humber Valley MHA, Darryl Kelly. "It clearly demonstrates our government�s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure in rural areas." "I am proud of the continued, significant investments being made by our government to address infrastructure needs throughout the province," said Wallace Young, MHA for St. Barbe. "These improvements will enhance driving for both residents and travellers alike in Trout River." The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the Provincial Government's infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $4 billion over the next several years.- 30 - Media contacts:
