The Williams Government continues its unprecedented
investment in infrastructure by issuing another tender for road work,
this time in the Trinity-Bay de Verde area. The road upgrades are part
of the 2009-10 Provincial Roads Improvement Program, worth $70.7
million.
"This government is continually making strategic
investments in the provinces transportation network; however we are
always mindful of the work still ahead of us," said the Honourable
Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works. "Thats why as part
of Budget 2009 we are investing over $300 million in transportation
infrastructure."
A tender has been issued to pulverize, upgrade and
repave approximately three kilometres of Route 70 from Adams Cove to
Western Bay, and approximately two kilometres of Route 80 from
Brownsdale to Sibleys Cove. Culverts will be replaced at Hants Harbour
Brook, Southwest Brook at Hants Harbour, Strainers Marsh at Hearts
Delight, and Spices Brook on Route 74. In addition, a timber retaining
wall at Grates Cove, and the Broad Cove Bridge on Route 70 will be
replaced.
"I am very happy that the tender has been issued for
the road work in my district, and I welcome the many benefits it will
bring to the area," said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Trinity-Bay De
Verde MHA. "This work will significantly impact the local
infrastructure and the motoring public."
The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create
an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the
Provincial Government's infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $4
billion over the next several years.
