Investment Continues in Roads Program
Its full steam ahead for the 2009-10 Provincial Roads Improvement
Program as another tender is issued, this one for road work in the
Gander and Lewisporte areas. The program is part of a $300 million
investment in transportation infrastructure committed to in Budget 2009:
Building on Our Strong Foundation.
"Once again our government is making a huge investment in the
provinces transportation network," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor,
Minister of Transportation and Works. "This years roads program is
worth an impressive $70.7 million."
The following road work has been tendered:
-
Approximately 22 kilometres of the Trans-Canada Highway
between Glenwood and Notre Dame Junction (cost-shared with
the Federal Government) will be paved; and,
-
A section of Norris Arm North Road will be pulverized and
paved.
"I am very pleased for the people in my district," said the
Honourable Kevin OBrien, Gander MHA. "This investment affirms the
ongoing commitment of our government to infrastructure improvements and
the extent to which we value the safety of the people of the province."
"The significant investments that this government continues to make
in the provinces infrastructure demonstrates our unwavering commitment
to protecting and ensuring the safety of the travelling public," said
Wade Verge, MHA for Lewisporte. "Notable improvements are being made on
our highways, and I am especially pleased to see the investment being
made by our government into the Norris Arm North Road."
The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create an estimated
1,400 person years of employment and is part of the Provincial
Government's infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $4 billion
over the next several years.
