Road Upgrades Headed for Baie
Verte-Springdale
Motorists in the Baie Verte-Springdale area will soon
experience an enhanced driving experience as tenders are issued for
upgrading and paving under the 2009-10 Provincial Roads Improvement
Program.
The program, part of a $300 million investment in
transportation infrastructure committed to in Budget 2009: Building
on Our Strong Foundation, is worth $70.7 million.
"We are continuing our aggressive schedule of issuing
tenders under this years roads program," said the Honourable Trevor
Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works. "We want to get crews to
work as soon as possible, not wasting a minute of the construction
season."
This year approximately nine kilometres of Nippers
Harbour Road will be upgraded and sections of Brents Cove Road and
Harbour Round Road will be upgraded and paved.
"Ensuring the safety of the travelling public is a
priority for our government," said Kevin Pollard, Baie Verte-Springdale
MHA. "I am extremely pleased with the significant infrastructure
improvements that we continue to make both in my region and throughout
Newfoundland and Labrador."
The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create
an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the
Provincial Government's infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $4
billion over the next several years.
