The Williams Government is showing no signs of slowing
down as it continues to issue tenders for road upgrades throughout the
province under this years $70.7 million Provincial Roads Improvement
Program.
The most recent tender has been issued for road work
in the district of Humber East.
"We are investing in provincial infrastructure at a
record pace," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of
Transportation and Works. "As part of Budget 2009, we are committed to
investing some $800 million in infrastructure, with a remarkable $300
million earmarked for transportation infrastructure alone."
This year in Humber East, the road bed for the Long
Term Health Care Facility in Corner Brook will be constructed from the
Lewin Parkway to Grenfell Drive.
"Funding approval for this new road link is welcome
news," said the Honourable Tom Marshall, MHA for Humber East. "This new
road will help alleviate congestion in a heavy traffic area as well as
providing an alternate route for heavy equipment to access the citys
core without having to travel through residential streets."
The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create
an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the
Provincial Government's infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $4
billion over the next several years.
