Construction on Trans Labrador Highway to Cross Another Bridge

Phase III of the Trans Labrador Highway continues to take shape with the issuing of a tender for the construction of a second bridge, this one over an offshoot of the Travespine River. This year the Provincial Government will invest approximately $32.5 million to complete Phase III of the TLH.

"The construction of this bridge keeps us well on schedule to complete Phase III of the Trans Labrador Highway and make the connection to Southern Labrador by the end of 2009," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works.

The bridge will be a 25-metre, two-lane, single-span structure. Tenders have already been issued for the construction of a bridge at the Kenamu River, as well as the construction of 30 kilometres of Phase III. In the coming weeks, a tender will be issued for the construction of the final section of road.

"It is exhilarating to see the final projects that will complete construction of the Trans Labrador Highway come to fruition," said the Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Labrador Affairs. "These projects build upon the direction set for Labrador over the course of the five-year Northern Strategic Plan, now entering its third year."

As part of Budget 2009: Building on Our Strong Foundation, the Williams Government is investing over $300 million in transportation infrastructure. The Provincial Government's infrastructure strategy is valued at more than $4 billion over the next several years.
