Help On the Way for Stranded Residents of Williams Harbour

The Provincial Government is coming to the aid of stranded residents of Williams Harbour, Labrador.

The seasonal ferry service in Williams Harbour has ended and poor ice conditions have prevented residents from using snowmobiles to cross the bay, so the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works, announced effective immediately, the Provincial Government will subsidize airline travel for residents of the community.

The Provincial Government will pay 50 per cent of the cost of commercial airline travel between Williams Harbour and Port Hope Simpson, once a week, for all residents of Williams Harbour. This subsidy will end as soon as ice conditions allow snowmobile travel to commence.

"This government recognizes the unique circumstances that the people of Williams Harbour are facing and we are pleased to provide this assistance," said Minister Taylor.
