Minister Congratulates Luke Adam on Being Named
to Team Canadas 2010 World Junior Hockey Squad

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today congratulated Luke Adam of Kilbride, who is one of 22 players named to Team Canadas roster for the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship, to be held December 26 to January 5 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

"We know that Newfoundland and Labrador athletes have the skills and talent to compete in the national and international arena," said Minister French. "This latest achievement, by one of our own, is an inspiration to young athletes across the province, and we look forward to cheering for Luke and Team Canada as they take on the world later this month."

Mr. Adam, 19, plays forward for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He is the teams top scorer, netting 25 goals and 27 assists for a total of 52 points in 33 games so far this season. He was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round of the 2008 National Hockey League entry draft.

"We have such a wealth of talent in this province, and the District of Kilbride is so very proud of Mr. Adam," said John Dinn, MHA for Kilbride. "Mr. Adam is a strong role model to the aspiring athletes in Newfoundland and Labrador. We offer him and Team Canada our support and best wishes, as they compete in this exciting international event."

Mr. Adam is the first Newfoundlander and Labradorian to be named to the World Junior team since Michael Ryder in 2000. Other Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who have had the honour are: Harold Druken (1999); Chad Penney (1992); John Slaney (1992, 1991); and Dwayne Norris (1990).
