Province Supports Wonderbolt Circus Production

Wonderbolt Productions has received $30,000 through the Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) to support its new circus production entitled Tricksters, which began Friday, August 14, and continues this week, from August 19-23, at Memorial University�s Reid Theatre.

�The Provincial Government is committed to investing in artistic expression in its many forms,� said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. �This particular show will also tour the province�s Arts and Culture Centres in the fall, and will be featured as part of a national tour in 2010.�

Tricksters is a blend of Newfoundland and Labrador�s comic and theatrical traditions combined with professional international circus acts and the artistry of Aboriginal dance and drumming.

�In preparing a show like Tricksters, funding challenges are always a concern,� said Beni Malone, Artistic Director for Wonderbolt Productions. �Thanks to the support provided through CEDP, we can knuckle down to the creative work of rigging our aerialists, fine tuning our juggling act, and preparing for our most elaborate show to date. The province�s financial support has also been crucial to bringing in national and international acts to work with our talented cast and crew.�

Budget 2009: Building on a Strong Foundation includes $1.5 million for operational and project support through the arts component of the CEDP program.
