Exploits Valley Salmon Festival Celebrates 25th Anniversary

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Exploits Valley Salmon Festival and the Provincial Government is investing $10,000 to mark this milestone event, being held July 16-20 in Grand Falls-Windsor.

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, said over the past 25 years the Exploits Valley Salmon Festival has become one of the most anticipated annual summertime festivals held in Newfoundland and Labrador.

"As a government, we congratulate the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor and applaud the various festival committees who have dedicated countless hours to organizing this event over the years," said Minister Jackman. "Not only is this festival well-known for featuring cultural talent from this province, but it also brings in national and international musical acts, and includes numerous activities the whole family can enjoy."

The Honourable Susan Sullivan, MHA for the District of Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans, said the Exploits Valley Salmon Festival is an opportunity to show people from all over the world what Grand Falls-Windsor and the Central region have to offer.

"The successful orchestration of one of the biggest festivals in Atlantic Canada, paired with the areas first-rate facilities, brings people back year after year," said Minister Sullivan. "On this, the 25th anniversary of the event, the Provincial Government support is most welcome."

"The five-day festival is enjoyed each year by people from all over the province, as well as a host of out-of-province visitors," said Ray Hunter, MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor-Green Bay South. "The provinces contribution will certainly help to carry on this great tradition, and ensure that this years event is a tremendous success."

Jim Courtney, Chair of the Exploits Valley Salmon Festival Committee, said the town is looking forward to the anniversary celebrations.

"The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor greatly appreciates the interest and support from the Provincial Government as we get ready to celebrate 25 years of Salmonfest an event we consider to be the number one continuous festival in Atlantic Canada," said Mr. Courtney.
