Minister
Announces Funding for Community Heritage Organizations
The Provincial Government continues
to support and promote Newfoundland and Labrador'
s cultural heritage
through the provision of operational support to community-based
heritage organizations throughout the province.
The Honourable Clyde
Jackman, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today
announced $821,035 in operational funding for 115 heritage
organizations, approved under the Cultural Economic Development
Program (CEDP).
"The Provincial Government continues to work with
heritage organizations to enhance their ability to protect and
preserve our unique heritage resources," said Minister Jackman.
"With day-to-day operational support through the CEDP program, the
heritage sector in Newfoundland and Labrador can continue to engage
the public by presenting our heritage in meaningful and innovative
ways."
The amount of operational support each organization
receives is determined through a formula calculation, based on a
group'
s eligible operating expenses and best practices in heritage
management. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador encourages
the implementation of best practices to enhance the preservation,
management and interpretation of the province'
s cultural resources.
A complete list of organizations receiving funding
can be found in the backgrounder below.
Budget 2009 includes $150,000 in new funding for the
heritage component of the CEDP program, including operational and
project support, bringing the total annual budget to $1.3 million.
Since the release of Creative Newfoundland and
Labrador: The Blueprint for Development and Investment in Culture
in 2006, the Provincial Government continues to build a stronger
cultural sector; with more than $25 million in new funding
injected in the past four years.
