Newfoundland and Labrador Shooting Association,
Provincial Junior Shooting Team selection process
Eligibility and selection process:
The NLSA Provincial Junior Shooting Team consists of
eight able-bodied athletes, four male and four female, divided evenly
between rifle and pistol. To become a member of the provincial junior
shooting team the candidate must be born between 1991 and 1998
inclusive.
The selection process requires the shooter compete in
a minimum of two designated air gun matches held between January and
June. We will announce these matches on the provincial government media
release site and by e-mail. Successful shooters must meet or exceed the
stated Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS)* on at least one of those matches.
Shooters who meet these requirements will begin training as the
provincial team.
Should the number of athletes attaining their MQS by
the end of the selection period for a discipline exceed the number of
available team spaces, then in October they will be invited to compete
in a closed team trials. At which point the top two shooters in that
discipline will be named as the travelling team and thereby eligible for
the Grand Prix grant for that season.
A shooter can try out for both pistol and rifle but
may only hold one spot on the team.
*MQS subject to annual review at a board meeting in
the fall (November) otherwise it will be unchanged.
