Encouraged to Apply for Program The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is currently seeking applications for the 2009 National Artists Program (NAP), an artistic mentorship program for young artists that will take place during the Canada Summer Games, August 15-29, in Prince Edward Island. "This is an exciting opportunity for young artists aged 16-22, working in the visual or literary arts, dance, theatre or music sectors, to participate in a mentorship program under the guidance of established artists," said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "As a Provincial Government, we are committed to the development of emerging talent, and this program supports the goals outlined in our cultural strategy, Creative Newfoundland and Labrador, which has invested $17.6 million over the past three years in arts, culture and heritage initiatives." Minister Jackman said the objectives of the program include: the exploration and interpretation of the Canada Games theme Inspiring Dreams and Building Champions; to foster and increase artists and athletes mutual understanding and appreciation of one anothers values, talents and proficiencies; to ensure the games offer a meaningful artistic experience involving young artists from every province and territory, and to foster participants pride in their province/territory and in their country. Three artists will be selected from each
province/territory, for a total of 39 participants. Team Newfoundland
and Labrador artists will be selected by a jury of established artists
based on artistic talent, commitment to the creative development of
their artistic discipline, and ability to collaborate. Under the
