Public Advisory: Prescribed Burn to be Conducted

The Department of Natural Resources advises that it will conduct a 105-hectare prescribed burn starting Friday, September 11, weather permitting, at an area referred to as Faulkners Flats. The site is located approximately five kilometres northwest of the community of Hampden and 13 kilometres inside the Clam Pond resource road in Forest Management District 16.

This prescribed burn originally scheduled for August was delayed due to unfavoruable weather conditions. It is being conducted as part of a silviculture management activity to prepare the site for planting and to eliminate the threat of adelgid, a naturally-occurring forest pest which limits tree growth.

The prescribed burn will take one to two days to complete. If weather and wind conditions are not favourable on Friday, the burn will proceed on Saturday, Sunday or Monday when conditions permit.
