Public Advisory: Polar Bear Warning for St. Anthony Area

The Department of Natural Resources is warning residents of the St. Anthony area, and particularly those near St. Anthony Bight and Great Brehat, that a polar bear has been sighted near the community of Great Brehat.

Conservation officers are monitoring the movement of the bear and are warning residents not to approach it.

If anyone encounters a polar bear, they should:

  • Remain calm;
  • Give the bear(s) space;
  • Back away, never run;
  • If you must speak, do so calmly and firmly; and,
  • Avoid direct eye contact with the bear(s).
  • Any polar bear sightings in the area should be reported to the Roddickton Forest Management Office at 709-457-2300.
