October 13, 2009New Fire Truck for Ferryland
The Ferryland Fire Department will receive a new
pumper truck, with the Provincial Government
contributing 90 per cent of the $240,000 cost.
"The Provincial Government is pleased to provide
funding to aid the Town of Ferryland in purchasing a new
fire truck," said the Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister
of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire
and Emergency Services - Newfoundland and Labrador.
"Enhancing fire protection services remains a priority
for our government."
The new truck will be cost-shared at a 90/10 ratio
between the province and the town. The Provincial
Government will contribute $206,443, while the Town of
Ferryland will add $22,938. Including the utilization of
a GST rebate of $10,619, the total cost of the truck is
approximately $240,000.
"I want to acknowledge the efforts of the Town of
Ferryland and its work in identifying and advocating for
a new fire truck for the region," said Keith Hutchings,
MHA for the District of Ferryland. "The volunteer
firefighters that provide regional fire services from
Brigus South to Aquaforte provide a valuable service and
this new fire truck will ensure they have state of the
art equipment to meet firefighting needs. I also wish to
commend Fire Chief Algie Windsor for his work and
efforts in advocating for this new piece of equipment."
The truck purchase is part of the $1.7 million
allocation for fire equipment in the 2009-10 Municipal
Capital Works Program. The Provincial Government and
Fire and Emergency Services - Newfoundland and Labrador
have announced in excess of $1 million in fire trucks
and equipment in communities throughout the province
this year.
