Blanche-Harbour Le Cou to
Receive New Fire Truck
The Provincial Government will partner with the Town
of Rose Blanche-Harbour Le Cou to purchase a new fire
truck valued at $240,000.
"Our government is pleased to partner with this town
to deliver a new pumper truck for the safety and
security of residents in that region," said the
Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs
and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency
Services-Newfoundland and Labrador. "Our government will
continue to strategically invest in primary firefighting
units throughout rural Newfoundland and Labrador, and
support enhanced fire protection throughout the
province."
The new pumper truck will be cost-shared at a 90/10
ratio between the province and the town. The Provincial
Government will contribute $206,443 to this project. The
Town of Rose Blanche-Harbour Le Cou will add $22,938 and
will utilize a GST rebate of $10,619, to make up the
total cost.
"Effective fire protection is an essential municipal
service for communities all throughout our province,"
said Minister Whalen. "Therefore, bolstering the
capabilities of the over 300 volunteer fire departments
throughout Newfoundland and Labrador remains a high
priority, and todays announcement is indeed another
example of our governments commitment."
The purchase of the new pumper truck is made possible
by a $1.7 million allocation for fire equipment in the
2009-10 Municipal Capital Works Program.
