The Ministerial Task Force established to respond to
the closure of the AbitibiBowater Mill in Grand Falls-Windsor, today
announced the members of a Community Development Committee. The
committee will work closely with the Ministerial Task Force and
Provincial Government officials to develop and implement strategies to
advance short- and long-term sector and project opportunities.
"The Community Development Committee will play a
central role in facilitating information sharing, greater dialogue, and
collaboration between the Provincial Government and communities impacted
by the closure of the mill in Grand Falls-Windsor," said the Honourable
Shawn Skinner, Chair of the Ministerial Task Force and Minister of
Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. "The members will be bringing
significant knowledge and experience to the table. I am confident that
these individuals will be able to contribute meaningfully to advancing
economic development initiatives in the region."
Consisting of community, business, and union leaders,
the committee is supported by an Interdepartmental Senior Officials
Committee. Committee members are; Deborah Armstrong, Peggy Bartlett, Ben
Blackmore, Janis Boone, Sandra Carey, Cyril Farrell, Darrin Finn,
Heather Fudge, Harry Hallett, Gary Hennessey, Karl Inder, Cyril Langdon,
George McDonald, Wayne Mills, and Carolyn Morgan. The committee will
identify short- and long-term opportunities and priorities focused on
economic development and diversification.
Minister Skinner, and the Honourable Susan Sullivan,
Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, met with members of
the Community Development Committee on Tuesday, March 10, to discuss the
work completed to date and next steps.
