Tentative Agreement Reached With Private Ambulance Operators

Today, the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, announced a tentative agreement has been reached with the provinces private ambulance operators.

This is good news for the operators and the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, said Minister Marshall. We feel that a fair and reasonable contract has been reached with the operators - one that continues to demonstrate our governments commitment to ensuring quality and sustainable services across the province today and for the future.

The tentative agreement offers an approximate 35 per cent increase in funding over a four-year period.

Tentative agreements reached with both private and community ambulance operators will ensure stability in our ambulance operations in the province during a critical time in our health care system, said the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Health and Community Services.

The Provincial Ambulance Operators Executive Board represents 28 operators across the province. These operators run 108 ambulances that conduct approximately 31,000 trips totaling approximately 5.3 million kilometres annually.
