Premier Announces Date for By-Election in District of The Straits-White Bay North

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced that the by-election in the district of The Straits-White Bay North will be held Tuesday, October 27.

"I am pleased to announce that on October 27 the constituents in the district of The Straits-White Bay North will have the opportunity to vote for new representation in the House of Assembly," said Premier Williams. "The district has had tremendous representation in the past, and will now welcome a new member to be their voice in the provincial legislature."

The Williams Government amended the House of Assembly Act in 2004 to ensure by-elections are announced within 60 days and conducted within 90 days of vacancy. The seat was vacated when Trevor Taylor announced his resignation on September 24.

"Selecting a MHA is an important task and I encourage all residents in the district to participate in the democratic process and get out and vote on October 27," added Premier Williams. "We look forward to welcoming a new MHA to the House of Assembly to represent the constituents of The Straits-White Bay North."
