The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador,
today announced senior appointments.
"The individuals bring extensive experience in the public sector to
their new roles," said Premier Williams. "I look forward to their
continued strong commitment and contributions to the public service of
this province."
Sheree MacDonald will be the Deputy Minister of the new Department of
Child, Youth and Family Services upon its creation. Ms. MacDonald is
currently Deputy Minister, Department of Government Services.
Darrin Pike has been appointed Deputy Minister of the Department of
Education, effective April 27. Most recently, Mr. Pike was Chief
Executive Officer/Director of Education, Eastern School District.
Donna Brewer, who served most recently as Assistant Deputy Minister
(Financial Planning and Benefits Administration), Department of Finance,
has been appointed Deputy Minister responsible for Provincial Government
programs. Her appointment is effective today.

Biographical Information
Sheree MacDonald
Sheree MacDonald served as Deputy Minister of the Department of
Government Services since January 2006. Her extensive experience with
the Provincial Government includes as Assistant Secretary to Cabinet
(Social Policy) in the Cabinet Secretariat of Executive Council;
Assistant Deputy Minister, Women�s Policy Office, Executive Council;
and, Director of Policy and Planning for Public Service Reform and the
Public Service Commission. Ms. MacDonald was also co-ordinator for both
the initial program review and regulatory reform processes. She also
worked for a number of years with the former Department of Social
Services in direct service delivery, training, planning and policy
development, which included liaising with volunteer, community and
private sector groups.
Ms. MacDonald holds a bachelor of social work degree from Memorial
University and a masters certificate in project management from York
University.
Darrin G. Pike
Darrin G. Pike has had extensive senior management and teaching
experience in the education system in Newfoundland and Labrador since
1990. Since 2007, he was Chief Executive Officer/Director of Education
with Eastern School District. For a two-year period before taking that
position, he was Assistant Director of Education (Programs) with Eastern
School District.
He has also worked as Director of the Centre for Distance Learning
and Innovation, Department of Education; Principal, Ascension
Collegiate, Bay Roberts; Program Implementation Specialist Avalon West
School District, and various other teaching positions at both the high
school and post-secondary levels.
Mr. Pike received a Prime Minister�s Award for Teaching Excellence in
1997 and one of four honourable mentions in the Reader's Digest
Leadership in Education Award in 1996. During his tenure as an
administrator at Ascension Collegiate, the school was selected as the
only school in the province, and one of 12 in North America, to attend
the 1995 National Institute for Excellence in Education and the
Conference Board of Canada Partnership Nomination in 1996. Ascension
Collegiate also received the Newfoundland and Labrador School Boards
Association Award of Excellence in recognition of its outstanding record
of achievement and leadership.
Mr. Pike has a masters degree in teaching and learning, a bachelor of
science and bachelor of education from Memorial University.
Donna Brewer
Donna Brewer began her career with the Provincial Government in 1987.
In May 2005 she was appointed Assistant Secretary to Treasury Board; as
the result of restructuring a month later, she became Assistant Deputy
Minister (Financial Planning and Benefits Administration), Department of
Finance. Prior to joining that department, she served as Assistant
Deputy Minister (Corporate Services), Department of Health and Community
Services where she also served as acting Deputy Minister from June to
September 2008. She also worked in a variety of other positions,
including with the Treasury Board Secretariat, the Department of
Education, and the Provincial Public Libraries Board.
Ms. Brewer serves on the boards of the Newfoundland and Labrador
Municipal Financing Corporation, the Newfoundland and Labrador
Consolidated Sinking Fund, Newvest Realty Corporation and the
Newfoundland Government Fund Limited. She also chairs the Government
Money Purchase Pension Plan Committee and the Group Insurance Committee,
is vice-chair of government�s Pooled Pension Fund Investment Committee,
and a member of the Business Attraction Fund Committee.
She holds a bachelor of commerce (co-operative) honours degree from
Memorial University, and a chartered accountant professional
designation.
