Media Advisory: Coastal Stewardship Agreement Signings in Labrador

On behalf of the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, the Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs, will sign Coastal Stewardship Agreements with the towns of Cartwright, St Lewis, Marys Harbour and Red Bay tomorrow (Wednesday, October 14).

The agreement signing ceremony in Cartwright will take place in the parish hall at 9:00 a.m. This will be followed by a ceremony in Marys Harbour at the community hall at 3:30 p.m. The agreements for St. Lewis and Red Bay will be signed at the Marys Harbour ceremony.

The Coastal Stewardship Program was developed by the Eastern Habitat Joint Venture (EHJV) to encourage communities that have a historic relationship with coastal areas frequented by eider ducks to recognize the value of this resource and to accept a stewardship role in maintaining their integrity. The Newfoundland and Labrador division of the EHJV is administered through the Department of Environment and Conservation.
