Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The
Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and
Conservation, has announced the following events
relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the
Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Glenfair Farms Cranberry Farm Development, Wooddale
Proponent: Glenfair Farms Ltd.
(Reg. 1447)
The proposal is to develop eight hectares of cranberry
beds six kilometres from Newbay Road off the Woodale
main access road. The development will include removal
of vegetation and the installation of irrigation and
sediment ponds, berms, bed drainage tile and water
control structures. Sand, fertilizers and standard
pesticides will be applied to the cranberry beds during
operation. Harvesting of the cranberries includes
flooding each field, in succession, with approximately
40-45 centimetres of water and removal with a cranberry
beater. The project is schedule to commence between July
- September 2010 if approved.
The
undertaking was registered on September 23, 2009; public
comments are due October 29, 2009; and the minister's
decision is due by November 7, 2009.
Glenfair Farm Cranberry Farm Wooddale North
Proponent: Glenfair Farms Ltd.

The proposal is to develop a cranberry and forage farm
on a 60 hectare peat bog located approximately five
kilometres northeast of Wooddale and seven kilometres
north of Bishop�s Falls. Construction will be carried
out over a two to five year period with approximately
four hectares of cranberry fields and four hectares of
forage developed by 2010 with additional developments
each year after The development of the cranberry fields
will include removal of vegetation and the installation
of irrigation and sediment ponds, berms, bed drainage
tile and water control structures. Sand, fertilizers and
pesticides will be applied to the cranberry beds during
operation. Harvesting of the cranberries includes
flooding each field, in succession, with approximately
40-45 centimetres of water and removal with a cranberry
beater. The development of the forage fields will
involve ditching, application of lime, fertilizer and
seeds. Forage will be harvested by tractor. The project
is scheduled to commence in July, 2010 if approved.

Harbour Grace Value-Added Seafood Processing Facility
Proponent: Blue Ocean Sea Products Ltd.

The proposal is to upgrade an existing building located
at 125 Water Street in Harbour Grace for secondary
seafood processing. The operation is to produce smoked
and dried seafood products. Waste will be managed by an
existing waste disposal system and there will be no fish
offal as primary processing will occur offsite. The
project is scheduled to commence upon approval.
The undertaking was registered on September 25, 2009;
public comments are due October 30, 2009; and the
minister's decision is due by November 9, 2009.
