Public Advisory: Trans Canada Highway Reduced to One Lane

The Department of Transportation and Works and Fire and Emergency Services Newfoundland and Labrador advise the traveling public that the Trans Canada Highway has been reduced to one lane in the area of Joeys Lookout in the Town of Gambo. The reduction to one lane on the TCH will enable crews from Transportation and Works to continue to drain water from near the highway.

A significant deposit of run-off water had accumulated near the Trans Canada Highway after a heavy rainfall in the area late last week. An update on the status of the road will be forthcoming.

The state of emergency has been lifted in the Town of Gambo and residents who were evacuated were able to return to their homes. The region is expected to receive another 25 mm of rain throughout the next 24 hours and residents are advised they should listen to the radio for further advisories; otherwise the town will contact them directly if an evacuation is required.
