Road Repairs on the Way to St. Johns

The Williams Government continued to implement its unprecedented Provincial Roads Improvement Program today with funding for road repairs to the Outer Ring Road in both the St. Johns North and Virginia Waters areas.

The Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Transportation and Works, made the announcement today, as part of this years $73 million effort to improve provincial roads.

"Our government is committed to providing smooth, safe roadways," said Minister Whalen. "Im confident the thousands of motorists that avail of this main artery everyday will appreciate this governments efforts."

In the St. Johns North region, $50,000 will be spent to repair ruts on the Outer Ring Road, as well as $640,000 for the installation of a median barrier, which is a carry over from last years program.

"I am extremely pleased with this infrastructure investment, which will assist in protecting the safety of drivers utilizing this busy artery," said St. John's North MHA Bob Ridgley. "There is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of those travelling on our roads."

The Virginia Waters area will receive $70,000 for rut repairs to the Outer Ring Road.

The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, MHA for Virginia Waters said, "I am very pleased with the allocation of funds for roadwork in my district. The people of Virginia Waters will see a tangible benefit from this investment, resulting in a safer, more pleasant driving experience."

The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the Provincial Governments infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $2 billion.
