Millions En Route for Bonavista North and Gander Area Roads

The upcoming construction season will be a busy one as the Williams Government continues to roll out its 2008-09 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

The Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced $4 million for road improvements in the Bonavista North and Gander areas.

"Im delighted that residents in these regions will see first hand the commitment our government has made to improving driving conditions," said Minister Whalen. "This governments main priority remains providing smoother, safer roads across the province."

Planned work in the Bonavista North area includes upgrading and paving various sections of Route 330 from New Wes Valley to Musgrave Harbour and a section of Route 332 from Main Point to Davidsville. Additionally, a section of Gander Bay Road, Route 330, will be resurfaced.

"I am very pleased with the funds allocated to upgrade Routes 330 and 332," said Bonavista North MHA Harry Harding. "These projects will provide a smoother and more comfortable driving experience for everyone travelling on these roads."

In the Gander district, repairs will be made to the sub-structure on the Northwest Gander River Bridge.

"Route 330 serves as a main connection to Gander and area, and the significant upgrades announced today will enhance Ganders role as the main service area for the region and will have a positive impact on the regional economy," said the Honourable Kevin OBrien, MHA for Gander.

The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the Provincial Governments infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $2 billion.
