$1.5 Million in Road Improvements for Bonavista South

Bonavista South is the latest region to reap the benefits of the Williams Governments record-setting, $73 million Provincial Roads Improvement Program, as the Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced $1.52 million for road upgrades in the area.

"Never in the provinces history has a government made such a significant investment in our road network," said Minister Whalen. "Improvements to the provinces transportation infrastructure make it easier and safer for motorists to experience the beauty of our province."

Road work planned for Bonavista South is:

  • Place surface course asphalt on previously upgraded section of Route 230; south of Morley's Siding, approximately 4.7 km.;
  • Guide rail near Summerville (carryover); and,
  • Upgrade and repave Route 230 near Greening's Restaurant.
  • "With winter coming to a close and the busy tourism season just around the corner, I am pleased with the announced road work for Route 230," said Roger Fitzgerald, MHA for Bonavista South. "The Discovery Trail is a busy highway, serving both area residents and visitors. These projects will provide a more comfortable and safe travelling experience for all."

    The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the Provincial Governments infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $2 billion.
