The Provincial Government is delivering $2.8 million to improve roads in The Straits-White Bay North area.

The Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Transportation and Works, made the announcement today as part of the Provincial Government�s record-setting $73 million roads improvement program.

"I�m happy to say approximately 90 per cent of the Provincial Roads Improvement Program is being done in rural areas such as this one," said Minister Whalen. "Improved road networks allow individuals to continue to live in smaller communities, drive to work and have more access to private sector and public services."

As part of the Provincial Roads Improvement Program in The Straits-White Bay North, the upgrading of Route 434, Conche Road, will be completed and a section of Route 436, from Southwest Pond towards Route 430, will be resurfaced.

"Replacing this aging infrastructure is important to the continued economic growth of the Northern Peninsula," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, MHA for The Straits-White Bay North. "Investments of this nature signify the Provincial Government�s commitment to the Northern Peninsula as they enable improved access to communities, along with offering a better driving experience for motorists."

The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the Provincial Government�s infrastructure strategy, worth more than $2 billion.
