Time to Fall Back: Residents Reminded to Adjust Clocks

Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are reminded to turn their clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 2 at 12:01 a.m. to reflect the return to Newfoundland Standard Time (NST). This change will remain in effect until March 8, 2009.

"Residents are reminded that the change in time means it will be getting dark earlier, said the Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador. Extra care should be taken, especially around schools and other areas with high pedestrian activity.

Minister Whalen also reminded residents that the bi-annual time change is a good reminder for people to check their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and add fresh batteries.

"This is a good opportunity for home safety checks which should include changing batteries and checking smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are in working order, said Minister Whalen. With winter fast approaching, some homes will soon begin using oil heaters and wood stoves and the few minutes it may take to replace a battery may save your life in the event of an emergency."
