Trio Launched With Provincial Government Support

Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Employee Benefits Inc. (NLMEB) today launched its new corporate identity, Trio. The Provincial Government provided $25,000 to support the re-branding initiative.

NLMEB provides pension, health and insurance benefits to municipalities and municipal organizations across the province.

The Honourable Dave Denine, Minister of Municipal Affairs, was joined by Gerard Lewis, President of Trio Board of Directors, to officially unveil the new logo and name.

"Municipal leaders give selflessly of their time and expertise for the benefit of their communities and fellow residents," said Minister Denine. "They certainly deserve access to quality benefits. For over 30 years, Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Employees Benefits Inc. has been a provider of choice for benefit plans and we look forward to continuing to work with the organization, now operating under the new name, Trio, to ensure this tradition continues."

Trio is defined as a team or group of individuals working together for a common goal or as any group of three things. According to Gerard Lewis, these definitions are very fitting for the organization and its work.

"First, we are a team of municipal representatives working together to offer competitive and solid pension and benefit programs to municipal officials and employees," said Mr. Lewis. "Second, we offer our products to three groups within municipalities elected officials, employees, and other municipally-related organizations. Finally, we also have three product offerings pensions, group health insurance and group life insurance. Trio is certainly appropriate for us."

Through Trio, municipalities may afford to participate in benefit plans. In addition, the Trio plans are tailored to municipal needs as it is an organization operated by municipal employees for municipal employees. The benefit plans and packages offered through Trio are also an important factor in the recruitment and retention of municipal employees.

Since 1978, Trio has been providing pension, health and group insurance plans to provincial municipalities. Currently, there are approximately 80 municipalities participating in the insurance and benefit plans and over 40 municipalities invested in the pension plan which is valued at almost $50 million.
