Public Advisory: Trans Canada Highway Closed
Between Towns of Gander and Gambo

Due to extensive rainfall in the region and the accumulation of run-off in the Joey's Lookout area, officials from the Department of Transportation and Works and Fire and Emergency Services Newfoundland and Labrador are advising drivers in the central region of the province that the Trans Canada Highway between Gander and Gambo has been closed until further notice.

A state of emergency has been declared in the affected area.  The main road through the Town of Gambo has also been closed as a precautionary measure.  Approximately 12 homes in the vicinity of Sheilas Restaurant, approximately 300 feet to the left and right and extending to the water, have been evacuated.

Be advised that residents stay off the roads and should contact their local fire department if emergency assistance is needed.

An update will be provided in the event that the situation changes.
