Town of LAnse au Loup to Benefit from
Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund

The Town of LAnse au Loup will construct a new booster pumping station in their water distribution system thanks to an investment of $381,334 from the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).

The Government of Canada will invest $127,111 in the project, with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador contributing $179,227. The town will fund the balance of $74,996.

"Through this project, the town will construct a new booster pumping station to increase the water pressure for 30 households in the community that are experiencing low water pressure," said the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). "Through our governments investment of just over $127,000, we are helping ensure this municipality can make necessary upgrades to its pumping station and improve the quality of life of its residents."

"Residents of LAnse au Loup will experience more reliable water services as a result of this investment in the water distribution system," stated the Honourable Dave Denine, Minister of Municipal Affairs. "We are pleased to contribute over $179,000 for this initiative, and secure municipal infrastructure which is vital to ensure that safe and efficient services are available."

The booster station is needed in the area concentrated in the upper levels of Evergreen Avenue, Earles Crescent and Harbour Drive because currently some 30 households in the area often experience very low water pressures.

The Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador MRIF Agreement is administered jointly by ACOA on behalf of Infrastructure Canada, and the Department of Municipal Affairs on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador, acting on behalf of communities, helps set the strategic direction of the agreement and identify priorities under the capacity-building component of the agreement.
