Town of Wabush to Benefit from
Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund

The Town of Wabush, Labrador, will upgrade its sewage treatment plant thanks to an investment of $852,660 from the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).

The Government of Canada will invest $284,220 in the project, with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador contributing $287,062. The Town of Wabush will fund the balance of $281,378.

"Through this project, the town will upgrade the mechanical and electric systems as well as the exterior appearance at the Commercial Street Sewage Treatment Plant," said the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). "Through our government�s investment of nearly $285,000, we are helping ensure this municipality can make necessary upgrades to its sewage treatment infrastructure and improve the quality of life of its residents."

"The province is pleased to contribute over $287,000 to support the upgrade to the treatment plant which will secure services for the Town of Wabush," stated the Honourable Dave Denine, Minister of Municipal Affairs. "Construction on this project is underway, and when the project is completed this investment will modernize the system, and ensure that residents have safe and efficient infrastructure in place."

The Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador MRIF Agreement is administered jointly by ACOA on behalf of Infrastructure Canada, and the Department of Municipal Affairs on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador, acting on behalf of communities, helps set the strategic direction of the agreement and identify priorities under the capacity-building component of the agreement.
